Realtek Announces Collaboration with NXP on Certified Wireless USB Device Chipset

Hsinchu, Taiwan, and Irvine, Calif. –September 18, 2006– Realtek Semiconductor Corp. (TSE: 2379), one of the world’s largest IC design houses and a leader in ultra-wideband radio technology, today announced that it has been chosen as preferred supplier of WiMedia physical layer chips by NXP Semiconductors, formerly Philips Semiconductors, for use in combination with its native Wireless USB peripheral devices.  This collaboration enables compact two-chip solutions based on the recently announced NXP ISP3582 and the Realtek RTU7011 integrated WiMedia physical layer (RF & Baseband processor).

“We are extremely pleased to be chosen as preferred PHY supplier for the NXP Wireless USB Device solution,” said Ran Yan, Senior Vice President, Wireless Communications Technologies at Realtek. “NXP has enormous experience in USB, which it is now extending into Wireless USB with a product offering many leading features.  The RTU7011 is designed and optimized expressly to complement such devices.”

“Wireless USB peripherals manufacturers place a premium on solutions that combine high-performance and low-power with a very small footprint,” said Paul Marino, Vice President and General Manager, Business Line Connectivity, NXP Semiconductors. “Realtek’s physical layer solutions, coupled with our ISP3582, deliver a full and high performance feature set in an extremely small form factor, making it an ideal choice for WUSB manufacturers.”

The RTU7011 is based on the WiMedia PHY 1.1 specification and provides comprehensive support for all mandatory and optional WiMedia modes within the 3.1?4.8GHz band. This includes support for all data rates up to and including 480Mbps, all frequency-hopping and non-frequency hopping modes, standard and burst mode, standard and burst preamble, transmit power control, and link quality indicator. The all-CMOS device fits in a 7mm x 7mm package, and is currently in mass production.
